Nuerotoxin Therapy for Aesthetics

Botox® is only one brand of neuromuscular blocking agents.  It was the first and is the most well-known. Tucker Integrative Medical Group uses some of the newer brands of neuromuscular blocking agents which decrease the likelihood of causing reactions.

Neurotoxins for Aesthetics

Botox® is a purified protein derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It is classified as a neuromodulator or neuromuscular blocking agent, and it is the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedure worldwide. It is primarily used to temporarily reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles—those caused by repetitive facial muscle movement.

The Mechanism: Botox® works by temporarily blocking the signal from the nerve to the target muscle. When injected into specific facial muscles (e.g., those causing frown lines, forehead lines, or crow’s feet), it prevents the muscle from contracting fully. This muscle relaxation stops the skin from folding, which allows existing dynamic wrinkles to soften and prevents new ones from forming. The effect is localized to the injection site.

The Benefit: A smoother, more refreshed, and youthful appearance with reduced dynamic wrinkles. It is a quick procedure with minimal downtime, offering temporary results that typically last three to four months.
